Absolutely Albuquerque

If you’re anything like Bugs Bunny, chances are you’ve recently been asking yourself which way it is to Albuquerque. After all, Albuquerque is absolutely stuffed to the brim with scenic vistas, rich culture, and a lively nightlife. Plus, heading south during the winter months is always a good idea, especially if you’re looking to escape the cold. If you’re looking for an unconventional escape to a vibrant Southwestern city that is full of opportunity and possibility, here’s why Albuquerque should be at the very top of your list.

A Nightlife Boom

Albuquerque is a city that is immensely proud of its nightlife and its ever-growing brewery scene is a prime example. Recently, the city surpassed its northern neighbor Portland in terms of how many breweries it operates per capita. A few of the top breweries in town have even taken home some special superlatives and awards at prestigious global competitions. There’s no shortage of quality brews to be had throughout the city, like La Cumbre’s Elevated IPA, a delicious New Mexican take on a dry hops beer, or Marble Brewery’s Bourbon Stout.

Beer not your thing? Luckily Albuquerque is also rife with established, celebrated wineries that serve up delectable vintages and robust flavors as well as a handful of local-favorite distilleries that are committed to bold new takes on classic spirits. One Albuquerque mainstay is the Casa Rondena Winery, a treasured institution known for its quaint tasting room and award-winning wine selections.

Flying Through the Sky

Just outside of the city, experience the picturesque landscapes of the Sandia Mountains by taking a gondola up the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway. Prepare for your mind to be blown and your breath to be taken away by the views you’ll see. If you’re looking to zen out during your visit to Albuquerque, the aerial tramway needs to be on your agenda. It is a great opportunity to get the perfect photos for a Facebook posts or an Instagram story while you’re up in the heights.  Once you are there it is too late, so be sure to visit one of the AT&T stores in New Mexico before you to get a smartphone that has the latest camera technology.  Then all you need to do is find the perfect Snapchat filter for the sunset scenery.

Once you hit the peak, it’s a great time to take a short hike along the crest of the mountain and absorb all of the stunning nature stretching out beneath your feet. Take a deep breath and savor the crisp, fresh mountain air before enjoying a leisurely ride to the bottom. If your mini-hike helped you work up an appetite, don’t forget to stop by Sandiago’s Grill at the Tram for some contemporary American cuisine and an authentic New Mexican Margarita. Your taste buds will definitely thank you.

International Exhibits

If you’re traveling to Albuquerque to experience its diverse culture and rich history, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science needs to be on your list. The museum plays host to several international exhibits and special events throughout both the main museum and the planetarium. More interested in an up-close-and-personal exhibit? The planetarium hosts a wide variety of shows and features to help you get more intimately acquainted with the stars. Plus, the museum’s DynaTheater is one of the best ways to experience a three-dimensional nature film.

Never fear, art enthusiasts! Albuquerque has no shortage of art galleries, displays, and creative souls gracing the city. The Albuquerque Museum is a tourist-friendly hotspot in the heart of the city’s Old Town, just off historic Route 66.
