14. The Leshan Giant Buddha
The Leshan Giant Buddha is a stone statue and the largest stone Buddha which has been built in the Tang Dynasty, a pre-modern world era. It stands at 71 meters or 233 feet. It is carved out of a cliff that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers in the southern part of Sichuan province in China. It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
