9. Palenque
Palenque is one of the most popular archaeological sites all over the world that sits on the western edge of the Mayan empire. Palenque is smaller as compared to its neighboring cities, yet, it is home to some of the finest sculptures and architecture during the Maya civilization. Most of the structures here dated back from 600 AD up to 800 AD and this includes the Temple of the Inscriptions which is the only Mesoamerican pyramid that was designed as a funerary monument.
